When preparing for Valentine’s Day, we often look forward to chocolates, fine jewelry or an enjoyable dinner out. However, some couples choose to go on holiday to a romantic destination where they are usually greeted by a less than romantic atmosphere. Why is this? They typically choose some of the most popular romantic destinations for Valentine’s Day and that means more tourists and more ‘canned romance’.
While travelling to Paris, Venice, Hawaii or some other supposedly romantic tourist destinations might sound like a good idea, choosing something different might add even more romance to your relationship and make your Valentine’s Day that much more special.
Let’s take a look at some alternative to the popular Valentine’s Day holiday destinations and see why they are often a much better choice:
Scottish Castles- the ultimate romantic fairy tale destination, Scotland has stunning countryside with scenic shores, plains, rolling hills and rocky highlands. Find yourself a Scottish castle with vacant rooms and this could turn out to be your most romantic trip ever. Often, Scottish castles have few or no other guests, so you may feel like you have the entire castle to yourself.
Iceland- Iceland looks beautiful and romantic in February and it’s a great alternative holiday destination for Valentine’s Day with its many glaciers and volcanos. If you are lucky, you may spot the Northern Lights while having dinner.
Barbados- Barbados is a beautiful tropical paradise for romantic couples, especially during Valentine’s Day. There are numerous bars, pubs and beaches and you can visit the rum distilleries to experience the history of the island. The island has a few scenic golf courses and resorts that you can stay in, or you can enjoy a romantic cruise at sunset while having dinner at sea.
Èze, France- located at the French Riviera, Èze may look like a medieval hilltop village, but it’s a rather neglected spot, compared to nearby Monaco and Nice. With the sunlight glinting on the golden Mediterranean Sea and the bougainville-covered archways , you will realize how romantic this place is. Located at the top, you will find Jardin Exotique d’Èze, a neo-classical 12th century church, with its winding stepping stones, statues and various tropical plants.
